Symposium Introduction

With the development of space science and technology, space materials science has made significant progresses in recent decadesHere, overviews of recent advances and future prospects of space materials science will be discussed in this symposium. So, we will review the historical evolution of space experimental apparatus for materials research, introduce the remarkable advances of space/gound-based materials exploration, discusses the novel progresses conducted aboard the Space Station(including simulated space enviroment), and forecasts the potential future prospects.

Symposium Topics

(1) Materials science experiments in (simulated) outer space. The physical characteristics of outer space environment and its ground simulation;
(2) Materials preparation, research and development for manufacturing rockets and outer spacecrafts;
(3) The preparation and processing of metals and non-metallic materials in space environment (including ground-based simulation, the same below);
(4) The physical and chemical properties, application performance, and service behavior of the materials in space environment;
(5) The solidification, heat treatment, plastic processing, and jointing, etc. of various spacecraft materials;
(6) The mathematical modeling and computational simulation relating to space materials science and technology.
